Gluttony – derived from the Latin gluttire meaning to gulp down or swallow, means over-indulgence and over-consumption of food, drink.
Why shoot gluttony?
In the 21st century we have been accustomed to so many creature comforts that we forget that we are living in a privileged age. We no longer need to hunt and gather. When we are hungry, food is as close as your telephone and food will come to you.
Growing up with these food comforts you expect it on demand/immediately. Food becomes an addiction. Food becomes your crack. You want to stop eating but you can’t seem to stop. It engulfs you and you can loose all self control. It’s much like being a smoker, you know you should quit but that nagging addiction keeps you on edge until your next death stick.
The last few years much of our habits have changed. Our entertainment has morphed to instant gratification. PVR, streaming video and YouTube for example have changed the way we watch TV and movies. You don’t have to watch your favorite TV show the night it airs. Now you can “binge” watch a complete season (or two) of your favorite show in one night. It is a growing en devour according to my Facebook feed.
This I believe, is where the idea to shoot “Gluttony” was born.
Over consumption can lead to gluttony.
I would like to thank all my family and friends who saved their junk food garbage to donate to the shot. If it were not for your help, the picture would just have been me in my underwear and that is just gross!
A special note to my loving fiance, please never look at this picture again because I miss you in our bed!!
